Independent snow and weather reporting from the Niseko region of Hokkaido

New snowfall at base 6cm
Snowfall at base this season 703cm

Posted on Monday 24th February 2025 This is an archived report. The latest Niseko Now report can be found here

Good morning from Niseko.

Just over 5cm of fresh again (my own observation), with up to 15cm of fresh reported by Hirafu on the mountain.

It is snowing as the lifts get up and running for the day. Should be fun!

I don't know why, and can't find any official explanation, but the Hanazono gondola is not opening as planned. The cabins aren't on the cable. (They can quickly put them back on, of course, so may just be a delay).

Other than that, all lifts seem to be opening as planned.

Yesterday was the Emperor's Birthday and so today is the national holiday to celebrate that. Happy Birthday!

I am guessing he had some special toast to celebrate.

Perhaps with some natto.
