Independent snow and weather reporting from the Naeba region of Niigata
New snowfall at base 30cm
Snowfall at base this season 552cm
Posted on Thursday 4th January 2018 This is an archived report. The latest Naeba Now report can be found here.
Good morning! The snow is still falling here in Naeba, with another 30cm added overnight to "Storm Dougle's" running total of 104cm. The wind has calmed down a lot today so everything is open in resort today. Skiing conditions should be a little more pleasant after yesterday's snow-blasting experience. The temperature is still comfortably below 0°C so make sure to wrap up warm today. The pistes are well groomed and should be in good condition throughout the day as the snow accumulation slows into this afternoon.
Looking forwards, we should be expecting some moderate to light snow through into tonight, with things clearing up significantly tomorrow. It seems as though a far smaller storm system will drag through the valley on Saturday, to clear by the evening. Temperatures are expected to warm up over the weekend, in advance of the next larger storm system moving through. On Monday, heavy rainfall is currently forecast, however we will have to keep our eyes on that one to see if it plays out as predicted.
