Independent snow and weather reporting from the Naeba region of Niigata

New snowfall at base 21cm
Snowfall at base this season 469cm

Posted on Tuesday 2nd January 2018 This is an archived report. The latest Naeba Now report can be found here.

Good morning! It's looking like "Storm Dougle" has well and truly hit town last night, with 21cm of new snow in the past 24 hours. It's quite breezy today, so there are a number of lifts on standby, but the pistes will be in good condition with that layer of fresh snow topping them. The temperature is just below 0°C, however it feels a little cooler due to the wind.

The forecast looking forwards indicates that "Storm Dougle" will continue to blast us with snow for a good few days to come, with the heaviest snow falling tonight and throughout Wednesday day and night time. The wind will pick up a little more overnight tonight and into tomorrow, but it should ease off once the bulk of the snow has fallen tomorrow night. Temperatures are expected to remain just below 0°C at the base of Naeba, however the wind chill will make things feel a little chillier than the air temperature suggests. "Storm Dougle" is expected to head off on Friday, when we will once again get a day's respite from storm mode before the next storm rolls in for the weekend.
