Independent snow and weather reporting from the Naeba region of Niigata

New snowfall at base 2cm
Snowfall at base this season 790cm

Posted on Tuesday 13th February 2018 This is an archived report. The latest Naeba Now report can be found here.

Good morning from Naeba! It feels like a crisp start this morning, despite the comparatively warm air temperature this morning of -4°C. Light snow fell intermittently throughout yesterday and lsat night, however accumulations at the base were limited to a meager 2cm. However, any fresh snow will keep the pistes fresh when groomed and this is certainly the case this morning. There is a light wind currently, but this is expected to strengthen as the day presses on. We are forecast more snow today, but predicted accumulations are limited to 8cm at the base in the next 24 hours. Air temperatures are expected to remain comfortably below 0°C today.

Looking forwards, the skies should clear tomorrow morning, allowing for a sunny start to the day. This will enable air temperatures to push up above 0°C, however these will crash back down to well below 0°C again from Thursday onwards. The clouds will push back in tomorrow night, brought in by a moderate wind, and stick around until Friday afternoon. After the possible sunshine on Friday, more cloud pushes in again bringing with it some more light snow.
