Independent snow and weather reporting from the Myoko region of Niigata

New snowfall at base 2cm
Snowfall at base this season 1090cm

Posted on Wednesday 8th April 2026 This is an archived report. The latest Myoko Now report can be found here.

When there’s two cm of snow on the ground, you have to add a report. Even if the sun’s out now, and the snow is gone. I heard there was more up the hill; we couldn't see much because of some heavy fog on the mountain for most of the day, but snow was involved.

Looks like a nice, sunny day out there—good day for a spring ski, or maybe to take in the cherry trees at Takada Castle Park in Joetsu City, just to our north.

A couple of nice and increasingly warm days, then some rain and really strong winds possible on Friday (goodbye, you evanescent blossoms).
