Independent snow and weather reporting from the Myoko region of Niigata

New snowfall at base 1cm
Snowfall at base this season 288cm

Posted on Sunday 4th January 2026 This is an archived report. The latest Myoko Now report can be found here.

Only a light dusting of snow since last night, and a sunny day once again. Which is nice for visibility, but we could really use some continued snow. The forecast is for snow starting from late afternoon, and I hope it’s a big one.

Backcountry still is not going to be a lot of fun—there’s a lot of brush out there and not a lot of open patches of snow.
