Independent snow and weather reporting from the Myoko region of Niigata
New snowfall at base 3cm
Snowfall at base this season 599cm

Cold and sunny, although old Sol is shining through some thin clouds. It’s cold out there, too, although I’m kind of fascinated how some resorts have the temps higher than yesterday, others lower.
My outside unit had us at -8° at 7;30, up to just under -4° now. Keep that snow cold and light!
The word from those venturing off the courses, though, was that the snow was actually pretty dense—they needed some steepness to keep moving. The snow this year has largely been pretty small crystals with some pretty good wind last big fall, so it could be pretty tough to get through. Better than ice, of course....
Lots of snow ahead; the morning TV shows were all about the snowfall over much of Japan. Niigata came in first in snowpack, I’m proud to say. I’m looking forward to more reports on lots more snow, which is so much more fun than what we had in the early season.
