The snow is back!

It really started to come down this morning after 6am, so while we don’t have a huge new amount yet, it is coming down steadily, maybe three centimeters per hour or so. The wind is already coming up, so we're seeing some lift closures already, and more may happen, especially for gondolas and wind-affected areas. Outside the runs, with a lot of snow falling on top of a wet base that was getting pretty frozen, please be careful! Sluffs and even worse conditions could happen. I did see that the mogul section of Maruyama (the local name for the hill on Yodel No. 5 lift) had cracked and was gliding, exposing the ground underneath. That’s probably what is happening at Lotte Arai, and others have reported seeing cracking and gliding at Seki Onsen. These can be kind of nasty when they get filled in with new snow, so keep an eye out (I assume the patrols will be closing/marking these today too).

Got some nice feedback from readers on my chat on respecting local traditions. One person was really apologetic, which they don’t need to be—most of our guests are really appreciative, friendly, interested, and even say “thank you” when I explain how to pronounce “Myoko” like a native (it's not My-O-Ko!).

It’s just the increasing number of those who are here only for the snow, or just for the ¥¥¥¥¥¥, that is the problem.
