Independent snow and weather reporting from the Hakuba region of Nagano

New snowfall at base 25cm
Snowfall at base this season 416cm

Posted on Thursday 9th January 2025 This is an archived report. The latest Hakuba Now report can be found here.

I'm a little late today as I had to take care of some personal business.

This morning... well, we continue to be blessed with some very nice snowfall. Check out the numbers being reported by the ski areas again (below). Up to 40cm in one day. Again.

The snow is still coming down and there's limited visibility out on the slopes. Extra care required in these conditions.

The snow might ease off by Saturday when clearer skies are due. With good weather forecast and a three-day weekend (Monday is a national holiday), it is going to be busy!

It seems hard to believe that we are still in the first bit of January, and it is going to be super interesting to see how the season pans out as a whole. I hope it continues largely like up until now! Perhaps you will agree.

One thing is for sure: I am going to always keep in mind during this exciting period that it is not always like this. And that we should not get complacent, or take it all for granted. Let's not get bored by the big numbers and the frequent fluffy gifts we are receiving. This precious snow needs to be appreciated every day. One good way to do that, of course, is to go slide on it!
