Independent snow and weather reporting from the Hakuba region of Nagano

New snowfall at base 5cm
Snowfall at base this season 364cm

Posted on Saturday 8th March 2014 This is an archived report. The latest Hakuba Now report can be found here.

The skies gradually got greyer and greyer as the day went on yesterday, and then the snow came. Temperatures down to about -6 overnight and at 9am not much warmer just above -5. Lots of cloud around, some breaks in the cloud and even a bit of blue sky at times, but the forecast is for cloud/snow showers today. Looks like it is snowing now at higher elevations.

As noted below resorts around the valley are reporting up to 20cm of fresh snow in places this morning.

Strong winds up there too as well I'm afraid and as I write this the lifts on the top area of Happo including Skyline and the Alpen quad upwards are on hold, as well as the top area of Goryu/47. So wind is a factor today. Let's hope it calms down quickly and lets those lifts get moving.

Some sun tomorrow maybe but followed up by more snowfall Sunday night into Monday.
