Snowfall at base this season 199cm

Good morning from Hakuba.

So yes a lovely morning yesterday though thin high cloud started to form late morning and as darkness arrived it was cloudy conditions over Hakuba.

The clouds didn't bring us much overnight though with just a dusting of snow and none of the resorts reporting more than 1cm.

Foggy conditions early this morning - some top lifts at Happo-one were delayed due to foggy conditions, but just now as of 9am they seem to have started moving - and it is snowing. Fairly wet snow down in the village, hopefully better on higher elevations. It has been a relatively mild morning though and at the moment around -1C and should be getting colder as the day moves on.

Just taking a look at the webcams from around town, it would seem that visibility is poor pretty much everywhere at the moment apart from the lowest base runs. Higher up, it looks as thick as a particularly thick blend of pea soup. (But not green; which is a relief).

Cloud - maybe sun - forecast for tomorrow and perhaps a few days of such conditions beforer the next snowfall due around Wednesday.

Tomorrow is the last day of the New Year for most people here in Japan. Hakuba has been very busy over the last week, as you would expect. From Monday, we'll be starting to get back to normal.
