Independent snow and weather reporting from the Hakuba region of Nagano

New snowfall at base 4cm
Snowfall at base this season 399cm

Posted on Sunday 31st March 2019 This is an archived report. The latest Hakuba Now report can be found here.

Good morning from Hakuba.

Snow! Yes, it's snowing.

There are some almost comically large snow depth increases and numbers being reported by the Hakuba Happo-one resort late morning. (I am saying that in a friendly 'sugoi!!' kind of voice). They are reporting 30+cm at base and 50+cm in top areas. (!). Now I do not like to cast doubt on information being reported, but it really is difficult to imagine that much when you consider the 1-3cm that Hakuba Cortina are reporting and the 10cm that Hakuba 47 are reporting from their upper slopes. Along with the few cm that I can report from down by my base measuring point. 30-50cm?! (Perhaps the time difference between the different reported info is making a difference, the 47 and Cortina numbers coming from earlier in the morning?)

Unfortunately I am unable to get out on the mountain myself today to go check it all out myself.

However much there actually is up there, it is of course totally brilliant to be able to report decent fresh snowfall this morning. What a great end to March!

Some ski resorts closing for the season at the end of the day so choices will be thinned down tomorrow.

I'll be with you until the end of the season in early May.
