Independent snow and weather reporting from the Hakuba region of Nagano

New snowfall at base 6cm
Snowfall at base this season 109cm

Posted on Friday 2nd January 2026 This is an archived report. The latest Hakuba Now report can be found here.

Hello from a snowy Hakuba.

Tsugaike is reporting 10cm this morning, with the big ski areas in Hakuba village all saying up to 5cm on the mountain. I have a bit than that to post in my report. (The weirdness of snowfall, hey).

It's snowing now and we are due more of it through tomorrow.

How about a bout of heavy snowfall, Nature? Come on, you know you want to!

Longer range forecasts seem promising, too, so I think we're in a decent place now. Would like more snow. But I always want more snow, so that's nothing new.

I think it's best to just go out and enjoy (and appreciate) it...
