Independent snow and weather reporting from the Hakuba region of Nagano

New snowfall at base 35cm
Snowfall at base this season 209cm

Posted on Sunday 22nd December 2024 This is an archived report. The latest Hakuba Now report can be found here.

Good morning from Hakuba. OK, so what do we have this morning?

We have more snow. And lots more snow.

Ski areas are reporting up to 50cm fresh on upper areas of the mountain. And there's been a fair amount down to base too.

I think we are at the stage of the season where I don't need to be listing individual lifts and courses in my daily list. With more significant snowfall expected over the next few days, that will only be more so as Christmas approaches. So, yes, it is a very happy place to be, where ski areas are now all mostly (or fully) open. I'm replacing that information with 'Notes'. See the list below to see what I mean. New snowfall numbers that are reported by ski areas shown in red.

It kind of feels like we are having lots of Christmases this season! I'm trying to keep the superlatives in check, but it's hard not to get extremely excited about all this.

Visibility out there is, at best, limited.

Excitement, for sure, but super care needed.
