Independent snow and weather reporting from the Hakuba region of Nagano

New snowfall at base 32cm
Snowfall at base this season 375cm

Posted on Friday 21st January 2022 This is an archived report. The latest Hakuba Now report can be found here.

Morning from lovely Hakuba. So the snow started to pile up yesterday and by this morning there's another fresh layer. Cortina is reporting by the most snow over the 24 hours, with 50cm on upper areas (and 30cm lower down).

There's still some light snow falling but it feels like it is getting a little brighter.

The top Grat quad at Happo-one is still closed (that seems to be taking a while...)

We're expecting lovely sunny skies tomorrow. Weekend visitors should be be greeted by lovely weather and lovely snow conditions. Lovely. That's the word for the day.

I'm not sure what's going on with the Iwatake (and sometimes other) official snowfall numbers. I think they are stuck on the previous day. As I often say to people in real life (off the internet), please just take all the different numbers with pinches of salt. They can be interesting, sure, but there are so many different people/ski areas doing different things on different schedules and all the other factors that go into it. It's not a completely consistent thing. There are just so many more important things to get stressed out about.

The numbers reported in the list below are checked with official sources each morning and relayed to you. So any 'error' is in the original data. In contrast, any error (always unintended) in the text of the report itself is purely due to me.
