Independent snow and weather reporting from the Hakuba region of Nagano

New snowfall at base 3cm
Snowfall at base this season 506cm

Posted on Wednesday 21st February 2018 This is an archived report. The latest Hakuba Now report can be found here.

Lots of blue sky in the morning yesterday with cloud gathering once again in the afternoon, temperatures dropping and some light snow falling in places. Quite windy too. A bit of a contrast in conditions during the day and also base to higher up.

And there is fresh snow to report this morning. So here we go:

Hakuba Cortina: 15-20cm

Hakuba Happo-one: 15cm (top Gondola station)

Hakuba Goryu: 2-5cm

Hakuba 47: 5-15cm

I am measuring 3cm.

So just looking at those numbers in themselves, looks like the places to the north got a bit more.

It's the 48th Happo-one Fire Festival on Friday and you'll be able to find that over on the lower Nakiyama area. There will be lots of events and entertainment going on including Taiko drums and ski/board demonstrations... and it will apparently the finale will 'end with a bang'. So there you go! It all starts at 7:30pm (on Friday).
