Independent snow and weather reporting from the Hakuba region of Nagano

New snowfall at base 2cm
Snowfall at base this season 99cm

Posted on Thursday 19th December 2013 This is an archived report. The latest Hakuba Now report can be found here.

Clouds remain over Hakuba this morning, but the clouds are trying to give us more snow rather than just sitting there like they were yesterday. Resorts around the valley are reporting new snowfall, albeit rather small numbers ranging from 1cm to 10cm. So a thin new layer of snow can be expected out on the slopes this morning.

Just a bit of (wet) snow down at village level and it is snowing lightly now. Snow is forecast on and off for the day and tomorrow, perhaps into the weekend. Early next week looks set to be drier and finer conditions, so all fingers crossed for the next few days.

In some resort news this morning, the Sakka quad lift will be opening from tomorrow at Happo, with all of their lifts and courses scheduled to be open and up and running from Saturday (first lifts Nakayama Number 3 and the Gondola starting at 7:30am).

With Christmas and New Year approaching, we can expect resorts to do whatever they can to open up as much as possible (obviously). Hopefully weather will co-operate and make it easy for them.
