Independent snow and weather reporting from the Geto Kogen region of Iwate
New snowfall at base 105cm (!)
Snowfall at base this season 723cm
Posted on Saturday 2nd January 2021 This is an archived report. The latest Geto Kogen Now report can be found here.
Good morning from Geto.
It is with great pleasure - and aching arms from shovelling - that I report this morning over 1m of snow. Yes, over 1m since yesterday.
There's going to be less than that - perhaps even more than that - in some places, but that is what has been measured.
The resort guys I spoke to just before said it's an incredible 1.5m on the upper areas.
Geto... sugoi!
It is deep out there. Extra super care is needed in these conditions. All the tree run courses appear to be closed this morning. I am guessing the resort is spending some time dealing with all the snow.
But all the main courses are open.
Looks like things should be less extreme over the next few days but the snow isn't going to be far away.
Official non compacted snow depth (as reported by the ski area):
Top: 410cm
Base: 290cm
Planned operating lifts:
Number 1 Gondola
Number 1 pair lift
Number 2 pair lift
Number 2 Gondola [weekends & holidays only]
Quad lift
Planned open courses (subject to change):
Main courses: all now open
Tree Run Courses closed this morning
