Independent snow and weather reporting from the Furano region of Hokkaido

New snowfall at base 8cm
Snowfall at base this season 25cm

Posted on Sunday 25th November 2018 This is an archived report. The latest Furano Now report can be found here.

Furano Ski Area did a great job of getting the ski area open as planned yesterday on 24 November. Despite the scarcity of snow this season at village level the coverage on the open trails was not too bad, with a bit of bush coming through as is always the case at opening.

This morning there was about 3cm fresh snow at base level, but temperatures spiked to +7c during the day and brought rain in the afternoon. The warm weather is affecting the snow up higher and some ground was visible on trail today.

Just to recap the ski area status:

Furano Zone is open with Furano Ropeway for uplifting/down lifting only. The skiable trails are Shirakaba and upper Sailer, with the Downhill 2 chair servicing those trails.

Furano Zone open.

Kitanomine Zone closed.
