Independent snow and weather reporting from the Furano region of Hokkaido

New snowfall at base 7cm
Snowfall at base this season 12cm

Posted on Wednesday 21st November 2018 This is an archived report. The latest Furano Now report can be found here.

The weather definitely turned to winter mode today. It snowed throughout the day and in Kitanomine village the snow on the ground peaked at around 7cm accumulation. Unfortunately the ground temperature at village level is still a bit warm and the snow has started to melt away. It is a different situation on the upper mountain where the ground is cold and temperatures stayed well below zero. The resort has reported 20-30cm at the top of Furano Ropeway. More snow is on the forecast tomorrow with the high temperatures forecast at +2c and the low -7c.

Furano Ski Area is currently closed. The proposed opening date set by the resort is 24 November subject to snow conditions.
