Tazawako (meaning 'Lake Tazawa') is a ski and snowboard resort that is located by the lake of the same name in the central region of Akita Prefecture. With majestic views over Lake Tazawa, the deepest lake in Japan, the resort base is at an elevation of just over 600m with the top at nearly 1200m - and a vertical of about 600m. This ski resort could still be called a 'hidden gem' with often outstanding snow conditions to enjoy within the ski resort boundaries and also in backcountry. Various tours are available including cat tours taking you up to deep and often untouched powder.
