Hoshino Resort Urabandai Nekoma - often known as simply Urabandai Nekoma - is located on the north-western slopes of Mt Bandai in Kita Shiobara village, Fukushima Prefecture. In winter the Gold Line toll road connecting this area of Kita Shiobara village with Bandai town is closed and so the roads going round the east side of the mountain need to be used.
The upper part of the Hoshino Resort Alts Bandai resort is geographically close to the upper part of Alts Bandai on the other side of the mountain, but they are not lift or course connected. Last season in spring they tried a new 'walking course' between the two. It seems to have been a success as they are opening it again as soon as they deem it safe. They are aiming to have it open from mid January 2020 until the end of the season. The 800m route between the top of the two resorts takes about 15 minutes in normal conditions and it should be open between 10:00am and 3:00pm.
The two resorts are owned by the same company and some joint lift tickets are available. Be sure to have a valid ticket if you intend to right lifts at both resorts!
For the 2019-2020 season, Hoshino Resort Urabandai Nekoma is closed on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays between 14th January and 5th March 2020.
Fukushima Prefecture is composed of three main regions - the Hamadori region to the east (including the Pacific Ocean coastline), the Nakadori region (the central area) and the Aizu region (the Western mountainous region). Many of the ski and snowboard resorts in the prefecture are found on or near Mt Bandai and Mt Adatara to the north of Lake Inawashiro. Most of the others can be found scattered across the western region of the Aizu region or to the south-west of Lake Inawashiro.
This season there is a choice of just an individual Hoshino Resort Urabandai Nekoma ticket or a ticket that includes access to Hoshino Resorts Alts Bandai. The ones above noted as '+ Alts' include access to Alts Bandai.
Lift tickets are slightly more expensive than those shown above between 21st December 2019 and 5th January 2020 (an adult one day individual Nekoma ticket is 500 yen more).
