Charmant Hiuchi Snow Resort is located in the western region of Niigata Prefecture - to the west of Myoko and to the north east of Hakuba... and reachable from both.

While it may not be as well known as those areas, people who have discovered Charmant Hiuchi often rave about it. Why?

Over 5m average snow depth in season // 65% of course areas remain ungroomed

Charmant Hiuchi is one of the few ski areas in Japan where the natural contours of the land have been left as they are and where you can really enjoy deep powder... usually 5m of it in season.
Add to that the fact that 65% of the course areas remained ungroomed....

If you love powder, you will want to try this place out!

Charmant Hiuchi is divided into four areas:

* Piste Courses

These courses are groomed and well-maintained. Hazards should be minimal but remain alert and ride responsibly.

* Powder Courses

There are no standing trees, but the course is ungroomed so be careful of deep snow, cracks and rocks. Do not approach marked hazards.

* Powder Area

This includes all areas beyond the “Out of Maintained Area” signs. These areas are left natural and are unmanaged by the resort. Natural features including deep snow, rivers, pits, ridges, kinks, trees, bushes and other hazards are common. Please keep this in mind and only enter if able to identify and navigate these hazards.

* Restricted Zone

These areas are exceptionally dangerous and are off-limits to all riders, regardless of skill. Do not enter restricted zones.

Those wishing to ride outside of the resort area must contact the patrol office and fill out a backcountry riding plan before leaving.

- The resort recommends that every skier and boarder has insurance
- Always check the information written on the white boards at the Ski Center
- For more detailed information, talk with the ski patrol.
- Take time to carefully review the area map and memorize the courses you plan to ride.
- Learn how to use an avalanche beacon, shovel and prove.
- Do not approach marked hazards such as overhanging snow, cracks and other dangerous areas.
- Be sure to check on changing weather and avalanche conditions before you head out.
- As much as possible, avoid going out on your own. The basic rule is always to be in a position where others can hear your voice.
- Deep snow is great fun, but there is always the danger of suffocation after a hard fall - understand the danger and think about how to respond
