Inawashiro - Small resort with amazing view of the Lake
It's not a big resort, the view of the Lake is just amazing... and easy access with free Shuttle bus from Inawashiro station.

I went to this resort end of February, snow starting to melt due to warmer temperature.. low elevation.

Mostly Beginner and intermediate slopes, there is one advance mogul slope at the top of minero area.

Recommended to visit when it's best snow condition - around early February.

Nice small ski area with beautiful Lake view... for a day

Some great snow and not busy
I went here on a free lift ticket that I had received. Lucky me!

And I was lucky with my choice of place and snow too.

Hardly anyone there on a weekday and my perfect timing landed me on the slopes with 30+cm of fresh snow and tons of untouched powder to play in.

It's not the biggest place out there, but the above more than made up for it.

On the impressive Bandai-san as well - the northern side in the region

Great place to visit
We went to this resort as part of marketing promotion for westerners as other Asian nations no longer go there due to its location (Fukushima prefecture). This is a very Japanese style resort. In fact since I first skied in Japan 12 years ago, this resort has the least amount of non Japanese skiers. Spotting a westerner is a rare event.

What the Chinese and Koreans who used to come and the westerners, who haven't fount it yet, for us was

Fun small resort for 1 days riding.
Resort is quite small but with great terrain. Lots of tree runs, trees aren't too close together too!

Green run from gondola - very flat - not fun on a board!

Foreign passports gets you cheaper ski pass - 3500 yen. Bus is 1000 yen each way from Koriyama - not free as stated! It runs 3 times a day and is a 1.5 hour trip.

One main place to eat with a few food vans outside - small and simple but

Let's Grandeco!
My previous Fukushima ski-jo experience was an enjoyable daytrip to Inawashiro in 2013 [], so assisted by the new-for-2016 Grandeco Daily Reports, I decided to head further up the road to the Ura Bandai area where Grandeco ski resort is situated. Despite safety concerns (following a fatal crash in Nagano), I took an overnight ski bus leaving from Tokyo, and costing 8,400Yen including lift pass. Thankfully the journey from Shinjuku was drama-free and in exactly the reverse order from my

Nice for budding begginers
Finally have good snow after 2015/2016 season's drought.

Nice long beginner runs going to blues.

I'm still a beginner and the long green run on the gondola is a nice place to practice and challenge myself.

The panorama view is too scenic (slow) so I only had the greens and the blues to play in.

Resort is big enough for you to enjoy the whole day and the gondola run is long and worth the wait

Twin planks
Paid a visit to Aizu Kogen Takahata, a skier-only resort in Fukushima. I was curious about what a skier-only place would be like. What kind of secret goodies would be on tap?

Slinging my two planks over my shoulder, I employed bipedal locomotion over the squirrel-encrusted bridge from the parking lot to the base area.

There are 4 lifts, all fixed pair lifts, with one up from the base and the other three reachable from up there. There was a

I noticed that the last review was from before the tsunami and nuclear accident. Don't stay away from Fukushima ski areas; they can be brilliant.

The slopes are well groomed and when the weather is nice (as on Friday the 6th), the scenery is beyond beautiful all the way down – Mt. Bandai towering over the ski area and the Aizu valley and Lake Inawashiro at your feet.... great!

The food in the restaurants is a little pricey, but not for

A family oriented resort in Fukushima.
Courtesy of a SnowJapan ticket giveaway (thankyou very much SJ) it's been a while since Grandeco has been reviewed, so I thought I'd throw my hat into the ring.

A mate and I ventured there on a Tuesday early in February and coming off the back end of a three day dump, we were rewarded with excellent snow conditions. Being of a slightly higher elevation to the other resorts in the Bandai area (with the exception of Minowa) the snow

Best view in town
Grand Sunpia Inawashiro Resort, Fukushima

This is a place that I have been meaning to check out for years. It is not terribly big, but can boast of occupying probably the best spot on Mt. Bandai for views, facing directly onto Lake Inawashiro. I really wanted to go on a clear day – which can be a rare thing around Mt. Bandai. But with the forecast for at least partly-clear weather finally coinciding with a day we were

Start of season with baby snow monsters
I had been planning to save Minowa for later in the season after their snow monsters have developed, but they had two of their three lifts running and the kid was up for trying somewhere new, so that is where we started our season.

The first real snowfall of the season was just winding down when we arrived, and visibility up top was not great at first, but what could be seen was nice and white.

Clear spells highlighted the nascent snow
