Good Cheap
Another one lift wonder.

A couple of steeps but the backside trail leaves you hanging. As the way back is very flat.

No real lodge. Lots of people randomly sledding. Thus feels a little out of control.

But only 1500 yen, so cheap.

One lift wonder
Shhhh....dont tell anyone but this is a fun little hill.

One lift feeds a bowl and a couple of trails. It is enough for a few hours. Also a XC course near by.

Alway empty and cheap

Very tired in need of upgrades
Owani Onsen ski area was packed the day I went and I am not sure why … also not sure why the croc is their mascot, but it works.

Difficult and dated lift system. No easy way to the top.

If you are a snowboarder don't take the long green off the top. it is a road.... really a road. You will end up walking most of it.

High Speed Quad....High Speed Powder
This place is worth the stop!

Skied on the afternoon ticket for less than 2000 yen. The high speed quad accesses most of the resort. There is a addition slow double to the top, but the trail down is a bit flat not good for boards. There is huge face that is accessed normally by a couple of slow fixed doubles. These were not running the day I skied. But you could traverse from the high speed and it the

Exceptional snow quality & uncrowded runs!
Aomori Spring (formerly known as Naqua Shirakami) has mostly mellow undulating, well-groomed terrain as well as extensive tree riding and a few steep pitches. The facilities are very good including five lifts (of which two are covered high speed quads and one gondola), extensive learning and kids’ facilities, a good range of dining options (from high end bistro to casual noodle bar) and excellent freestyle features (including a 22ft halfpipe and a terrain park).

There is the option to stay on

Early, early season... Still not bad.
Hakkoda isn't known for it's groomed runs, and they are pretty forgettable. Unfortunately the top of the mountain wasn't open as we don't have nearly enough snow yet, but considering there was nowhere else to go I was more than happy to ride the two runs that were open all day!

Price was good, since it was early season, we paid ¥2700 per person and rode all day... Snow conditions were, as I said, OK but not great. Lodge was nice,

Again, very impressed.
Second trip here, every bit as impressed as the first time. It's a little bit of a drive but it far outshines the resorts in closer proximity to us. Good size, minimal crowding and entertaining runs.

Lift system is well layed out and quick, the only way I could see someone not enjoying this resort is if they are a true expert or simply don't like long, winding runs through beautiful trees.

If you're a pure park snowboarder, go somewhere else,

Small but Entertaining
We knew heading out we were taking a risk with the snow conditions, since it had been a warm, snowless week, but we decided to give Makado a shot anyway due to its extremely close proximity to us (45 minutes!).

On arrival, the snow was about how I expected it to be, very icy and with minimal coverage. Not great for beginners, but still rideable.

The lodge is big, much bigger than I think a mountain this size probably needs, and had

OK, nothing special
Someone seems to be giving it high scores, but I didn't get that.
It was ok, just nothing special. It will be a good place if you are in the region, but not a place you'll be spending time to get to.
I would prefer Tazawako in the same kind of general area

Excellent conditions, beautiful mountain and exciting intermediate runs.
We did a trip for the day and drove out from the Misawa-shi area (about 2 1/2 hours) and it was well worth the trip. The slopes were not crowded, very well maintained and just the right challenge level for my wife and I (we're not beginners but not experts, either).

I was particularly fond of the intermediate run that dead ended at Mos Burger. It was great to be able to ride straight down and have a burger and a

Good Family Resort- Something for Everyone
I had the chance to join a friend in Noheji for a trip to Makado Onsen. While small, the resort is still larger than Kamafuseyama (hard not to be) with more courses and lifts.

The weather was pretty crappy early morning with heavy winds and heavy snow, but by the time we were ready to head out, most of it settled down and made for decent weather the rest of the day.

The lodge itself is very large and has all the

Great Resort for Locals - remote location
The most northern ski slope in Honshu, Mount Kamafuse is a minimalistic ski resort that doesn’t warrant a special pilgrimage to visit, but if you are local to the area, it can become an excellent daily escape from the business of life.

Kamafuse is considered a family resort for the people of Mutsu but offers little in the ways of accomidation that you’d expect from larger resorts. Despite it’s small size, there are several chatlets for overnight stays and a few
