Snow Park Oze Tokura review |
This a good place located a little further along the road from White World.
nThere is a lot of variety for all levels and some challenging runs, the lifts are fast. Late afternoon got a little crowded on some of the narrower runs with boaders buzzing lower-level users. If you can get away from these people there's some good snow, especially on the Diamond gerende which had few people all day and deep snow to carve |

3 or 4 stars, I cant decide, maybe 3 and a half.
This is a Prince Hotel which is a golf/tennis place in summer. It has one of the most picturesque settings of all the ski resorts I've been to. For a small resort with 4 lifts there is a good variety of levels and course length, good lifts and, midweek, virtually no people and ticket discounts. However on Wednesday the No4 lift to the top of the hill was closed.

Kandatsu Kogen review by greenmachine |
This was the beginning of the winter-break season and therefore it should/could have been very crowded. However, it didnt seem crowded, no lift lines, runs clear of human hazards and some good, good skiing.
A smallish place but not too small. The lifts are fast and the runs are wide and interesting. Think about this place if the gondolas at Naeba are closed and you want to avoid the *crowds*.
They make the TV show segment dekiru/dekinai here, where the young |

I'm re-reviewing Maiko and I like it less than last time so I'm down-grading it to two stars. I remember it being crowded and dull when the gondola was closed. This time the gondola was open and it was...crowded and dull. Far too many super-slow boarders congesting the narrow and short runs in the bowl and valley. Korakuen is more open, faster and interesting.
I would recommend for complete beginners, families with small kids and for others mid-week only. Avoid on |

I enjoyed it more as the day went on. After 2pm most of the morning crowds had left. The afternoon was very enjoyable, however the soft snow on the family run meant a lot of *slow snowboaders* headed up the hill and made things a little too crowded on the narrower, steeper gerende.
Heavy snow during the middle of the day soaked up some slush and the surface dried out, becoming 'sandy' towards the afternoon.
A nice day out with |

It was a long weekend so the hotel was completely full with unbelievable crowds in the *two* elevators they have. Hard on the legs but lots of stairs were climbed.
It is well organised and you ski in ski out. Good long runs if you join 'em up, enough gerende to absorb everyone and it really wasnt at all crowded on the mountain. No-one was using the forest trails and the shorter runs on the other side of the hill of |

This is a small, small ski park. There is one challenge course, 2 or 3 short intermediate options and a longish, flatish cruising run if you take two lifts up to Minakami Kogen.
There was virtually nobody there apart from some school lesson groups in the afternoon (who only stayed for a couple of hours). A good place to learn/teach, brush up rusty skills, take the kids etc. Very, very pretty silver birch forest. Cheap lift ticket. (3500yen)
There is a |

Maiko Snow Resort review by greenmachine |
The ropeway and top runs were closed when we visited so the chairlift had a 20-30 minute wait. The so called beginner's run near the ropeway is completely flat! Most were taking off skis and boards and walking. Argh! Grrr.
Crossing over to the other side of the resort was time consuming and a little annoying. That side was crowded, the surface old and icy and I didn't like it.
On the other hand, after 5, most people head home. While we |

I like ishiuchi. The top 'street' gets crowded but there are plenty of places to peel of and head onto trails. Loads of lifts. Quite busy but no waiting. I went there for the day and really enjoyed it. A colorful place.
There is a nice beginner platter at the bottom |

Yes, it smells funny, but the onsen water is *good for your skin* (well it'd wanna be)!
This is a big place. I went with a group of friends, one of whom is a part time instructor at the resort so I spent a lot of time practicing turns in a near white out...I don't remember a whole lot else.
There are good wide gerende (for practicing turns) and some fun trails. When the sky cleared the views are great. There was |

I came here for a 4 day trip after about a 2 year break from skiing. It was a good place to get back on the skis.
There are 3 mountains joined together - but far apart, if you don't have a car, it could be boring.
I only went to Pine Beak and White Davos. Pine Beak was less crowded but I dont have the skill to ski the 'challenge course' and the forest trail was flat/inclined in places so then |
