Minakami is good. This was only the second place I've been to in Japan, so I can't really compare it to much, but despite looking pretty small, there are quite a few long runs here.
As other said, there are lots of runs for different skill levels, however I had one problem. I'm not a great skier, but I got bored on the beginner hills, and then found the "intermediate" runs much too hard. There was a HUGE gap in necessary
I had not been skiing for 6 whole years, but I had an awesome time at Kandatsu.
I went with one other guy who hadn't been in almost as long as I had, and one girl who had never skied before. Therefore, we stayed almost exclusively in the beginning areas. That being said, we still had a ton of fun.
The lifts weren't too busy, despite it being a Saturday and we had got to go down plenty of times.
