Mizuho Highland review by bulldog
Mizuho revisited.

This place kicks ass for western Japan.

First time here on a weekday and like everywhere else, there is hardly anyone around. It dumped for two days before we came, so the snow was excellent for mid-March. The advanced runs have good terrain and enough length. The rest of the mountain is pretty wide open and good for beginners. Modern facilities with warm, clean toilets and decent restaurants, etc... It doesn't have

Sky Valley
Connected to Tohachi so you can ride both mountains, although Sky Valley has better snow, better terrain, longer runs and shorter lines. I still haven't been to Hachi Kogen/Hachi Kita so I can't copmare, but this replaces Kannabe's Nashiki Kogen as my top pick for Hyogo. On Sunday, Tohachi had a 15-20 minute line at the bottom whereas Sky had none. Off the peak there is some pretty good steeps with easy acess to trees

Niseko Grand Hirafu review by bulldog
Niseko is great, but it isnt what it used to be. The mountain hasn't changed, of course, but the feeling of the town and the number of people going off in the trees/off-piste has grown to the point where it is a bit disappointing for someone who saw what it was like even five years ago.

The Aussies who have made Niseko their home basically sold out the very reason for being there. Guess, business is business, eh,

Takasu Snow Park review by bulldog
I would imagine this is probably the best in the area, if not the whole prefecture.

Good variety in courses, and good tree runs without the rope-off-the-whole-mountain mentality.

Seems like you could pretty much go anywhere and nobody cared--yeah! Good amount of snow, too

Hakuba 47 Winter Sports Park review by bulldog
I know this place and goryu holds the goods, but unless you've got inside connections (a local friend) it will be difficult to score on the first day out, unless you hit it after a big dump and the regular courses are in good condition.

Nevertheless, tons of potential hidden back there for the outlaw rider.

Hakuba Cortina review
Great resort with good variety in terrain and alot of steep runs. Uncrowded even on the weekends.

The hotel was good and they have some really good package deals. Only wish they would open up more of the off-piste stuff -- so much potential, but you gotta break the law to get the good stuff.

Seems like pow-pow tree runs are a drug in the Hakuba area and the patrol are the cops

I agree with the other reviews -- this seems to be the best in the area.

Good terrain for boarders, with some trees and steep runs to be found. Didn't see any patrol and I saw a lot of tracks in places that your average small town patrol man would have a fit over.

Great access (5 min.) from the interchange without the usual road danger. Didn't get it after a dump, but it sure looks like fun

Meihou review
The place has potential, but like Chris said, the good stuff is roped off at the top.

Would be nice after a big dump -- but you'd have to be an outlaw to really have fun. I sneaked in from the side (very minor) to get the edges of the trees( had my kids with me on the main slope) and got busted by Johnny Law.

Lame state of mind in the backwaters of Meiho
