Semi-indoor skiing in the shadow of the Seibu Dome.
In April of 2008, I made the journey to Sayama ski area in Saitama. Sayama is an indoor ski area, consisting basically of a long roof placed on a hill, with two single-chair lifts on either side of the single slope, which measures 320 m long. Obviously, the snow is entirely artificial. Surprisingly, the walls are not enclosed -- there are some plastic curtains between the slope and the lifts, with the curtains being open most of the day. Good top runs and nice park set-up - posted by smokeshow
I went there for a weekend, they had 60cm or so of fresh snow, so I could not complain! It was my first time there so did a lot of exploring in the trees, found some very fun terrain rock drops and tree runs.

It is a big resort and I would go again - my favourite resort now!

Jeunesse Kurikoma review by akitapow
It is hard to compare this ski hill to the other heavy hitters in Japan, but in terms of smaller local ski-jos, this one is pretty SWEET (def one of the best in Akita)

When the snow is good, this place is so much fun! There are definitely runs for all levels, but the highlight is the upper lift (left side of the mtn) where you can find the 40deg slope and courses that can really give you a workout.

Togari Onsen review by chikumango
We got sold on this place because there was a great package deal that included transport, lift ticket and lunch. When we arrived we soon discovered we were not the only people aware of the cheap deals.

It was extremely difficult to make it down the mountain without nearly running into people. The bottom of the mountain near one of the lifts had a bit of a bottleneck which did not help.

The snow quality was fair but nothing spectacular.

Hakuba Iwatake review by chikumango
We had planned to go to another Hakuba resort but chose Iwatake because we had heard great things about it.

Iwatake is a fun little one or two day spot. We were pleased to see the gondola was moving at a quick speed up the mountain and many of the beginners stuck to the main course. The middle to advanced courses were pretty much empty.

The snow was fantastic. We had continuous snowfall throughout the day.

Akakura Kanko review by chikumango
Akakan was a bit of a disappointment.

To be fair though there had not been much snow in the previous days to our arrival.

It did look like it could be a bit of fun on a good day. When we went, the sun had melted one side of the gully we went bombing into and as a result came to a screeching halt when we got to the other side.

There were some nice looking gullies and tree

Beautiful views, great snow - posted by norcal
Went to this resort with a few friends a few weeks ago. We've never been to Myoko, but I heard it gets great snow. We were not dissapointed. Early on, the runs were great. Some off-course tree runs as well with some powder stashes too.

The resort itself is beautiful. There are fantastic views everywhere, definitely a must-see. However the great views are partially ruined by the repeated J-pop songs...which I only remember them playing 5 that day.....on a LOOP.

Miyagi Zao Eboshi review by Joey B
I've been to Eboshi several times. On a snowy day, it can be a lot of fun. Of course this is Miyagi, so it can easily warm up in the morning and in that case the conditions are not so hot.

This day I took my girlfriend here to learn to snowboard. The gondola is nice but the condition that high up were icy and wind blows off any incoming powder. Lower down the trails are beaten enough that its much

Inawashiro review by covenjp
Was at inawashiro on the 26th and 27th of Dec with my family we all had a great time snow was good staff super friendly and only a hand full of people on the hill which made for great sking no waiting for any lifts and the space you could want.\r\n\r\nI know many people don't like the idea of going to Fukushima with all the stuff that happened but all I can say from the info I have is that

Kandatsu Kogen review by Tubby Beaver
After the snow finally started falling on Honshu last weekend, I decided to come up to Yuzawa on the 1st day of my holidays....I was well rewarded.

The snow had stopped and the sun was out, however it didn't have a detrimental effect on the snow that was there. All round Yuzawa town the streets and trees were thick with the snowfall and Kandatsu was no different. There were only 2 lifts open, but actually this still gave me access to

Kamui Ski Links review by andylaurel
Kamui Ski Links near Asahikawa, Hokkaido opened yesterday so I thought I'd go and check it out.

It's a medium sized resort with a fun mix of pistes, and a very liberal off piste policy.

It's only 3000 yen all day, and despite being a Sunday, it wasn't too crowded.

I recommend this resort to anyone looking for a fun day in the snow

Kyowa review by akitapow
Just another small ski hill in Akita.\r\n\r\nCheap, but with 2 lifts and no steeps, I'd say it is aimed towards the mellow skier/rider that just wants to get out and make some turns. They do set up a little mini park with some kickers and a box or 2, but nothing special there either
