Hunter Mountain Shiobara review
Hunter Mountain has some excellent runs for learners. They're long, flat, wide and have few or no bumps. There is also a beginner level half pipe, rails box and a tiny jump or 2.

The lift lines are short, on Mondays at least, and the resort is well maintained and tidy. Even the music is reasonable and you can put in requests to the mountain DJ. They have Mos Burger and an avaragely priced Conbeni-like shop. If there used

Kurumayama Kogen review
I feel the need to review this place again now that its changed a bit. The park they have built has some good rails (about 5) some well shaped table tops, a really nice spine and a wall ride at the bottom. There werent too many people and there werent any queues for the park which made a nice change from other resorts.

Unfortunately the snow conditions were dangerously icy up at the top section of the mountain and unlike the

Nozawa Onsen review by Hamitaro2004
Nozawa is one of my two top resorts in striking distance from Tokyo. It's a jolly big hill with plenty of different runs and lots of lifts to handle loads of punters. Having said that I've never had to wait more than five minutes for a lift there.

The courses towards the bottom all end in pretty steep sections which keeps the learners compressed in to a section in the middle; quite a big section actually, so it doesnt interfere with

Naeba review by Hamitaro2004
Naeba is very popular and with good reason...its a great resort.

Sunday was no exception. There were quite a number of people on the mountain but there is always enough room to manouver around them so it doesnt really matter. There were no lift lines which was good.

We took the valley almost directly under the top of Gondala number 1 for a bit of backcontry. My friend got caught in a 6 foot deep snow hole and was lucky to get

Nozawa Onsen review by Hamitaro 2004
I've read the reports about this place and was really keen to get up there...and it didn't dissapoint.

The travelator to get to the bottom lift is fun to start with. You have to walk past a couple of onsens and traditional Japanese houses complete with shrines setting the scene for a truly Japanese mountain experience.

Lifts opened about 8.30am so there was plenty of time for a soak in the pools before heading up.

The lift staff were friendly and helpful even

Hakuba 47 Winter Sports Park review by Hamitaro 2004
Sunday in the middle of a 3 day weekend is probably not the ideal time to be heading up the mountain and expecting to have it all to yourself and today was no exception.

There were lots of people on the mountain, queues for Africa on the hits in the park and ankle biters popping up in front of you more often than was comfortable. The pipe however, had a very short queue probably owing to the fact it was

Karuizawa Prince Hotel review by Hamitaro2004
This was the first day of the season and only here and Neaba seem to be open this early.

The course open was a beginners course in front of the rental building. The snow was all man made on a grass base. It was about 20 metres wide at the widest point. The slope itself was not ridiculously crowded owing to the fact that it was serviced by one fairly slow double chair. It was about a one minute run if

GALA Yuzawa review by Hamitaro2004
After reading the reports on this place I was expecting queues for Africa but it simply ain't the case.

This was a perfect Sunday with no clouds and no wind and the longest I waited for a lift was 3 minutes.

The runs at the top of the hill were narrow and the traverse back from the left side had uphill...the dread of all boarders!! Also the laft side had moguls and bumps all over the runs....definetly best avoided on the snowboards.

The

Kurumayama Kogen review
My first day boarding in Japan and the weather was perfect. I think it snowed 2 nights before and there was still loads of untracked pow pow. We did about 2 runs on piste and the rest was under the ropes which the lifties were cool about. Good steep stuff up top BUT....

Its a bit boring for more than half a day. There were no jumps, no halfpipe and no rails. The snow conditions made up for it but a
