New to Snowboarding I went with a mixed group of skiers & boarders from all levels, all of us had a great time.
The resort itself is very very well organized, has excellent accommodation, restaurants, lockers & toilets.
Previous reviews stated that you need to get there very early in the morning, I didnt agree with this. Our visit was in mid February over a very busy competition period, we arrived there at 10.30 am on a Friday, no rush. Saturday no different, we got there about 10.00am, again no probs, though the car park was a little full.
Anyone travelling from Osaka, its takes about 3.5 hours with a few stops, pretty plain sailing. 4 hours from South Osaka.
We stayed in Fukui itself. At the Washington hotel you can pay JPY7500 p/person for room only & 1 ay ski pass worh JPY4500, quit reasonable considering the hotel is very good & central. Located though about 1 hour from Skijam. Nearby Rey restaurant is very good, Italian & all dishes are around JPY1000 & are of Gaijin size (just opposite the hotel almost).
I found that if you didnt have ski/board equipment, its better to stop off before skijam itself to hire. I heard that ski/board hire was JPY4000/4500 per day @ Skijam, on the main hill side road leading to Skijam, 15 mins by car away, you can hire for JPY2500 for both or JPY3500 for 2 days, bargain!
All together we were very impressed with the resort. I had a 2 hour lesson with an instructor by the name of Fujino san who was very patient & a really nice guy. My Japanese is limited, but he spoke "pera pera" English & we got by. He even joined us for a beer in the bar after.
If anyone wants eaxt information in more detail, let the site know and I would be more than glad to speak with anyone regarding the resort or anything related to.
