Nice resort with lots to offer
I've been to APPI five, maybe six times now and I'll probably be back.

Some big time pros for APPI are:

Open early, open late. The last couple of seasons have been a little hit or miss, especially early season. APPI was one of the only places open when I started the season in mid December last year, and they tend to have good snowfall even when smaller resorts are hurting.

Large selection of courses. APPI has a little bit of everything. There are some challenging runs, some entertaining intermediate stuff and a whole lot of green. Depending on where you go on the mountain you can spend an entire day out and not even make it all the way across, which is refreshing compared to some of the small resorts in the area that offer a half day worth of new challenge at best.

Good snow quality. APPI gets a lot of powder, even by the standards of the region, and even when it's been a while since fresh snow has fallen there are still lots of good opportunities to get off into the deep stuff. I've never had a TRULY bad snow day at APPI, and I've had some bad ones at some other resorts.

Good price. For the size of the resort, the lift tickets are very reasonable.

Some of the cons of APPI:

Crowded, especially on weekends and holidays. APPI is a good resort, and that means it's popular with Japanese and Americans alike. Lots of people crowding up lifts, crowding up parking and crowding up the restaurants. In mid season on a weekend or holiday the green runs can be an almost impregnable mass of skiers, making it difficult to navigate and causing lots of icy ruts. This can be avoided if you stay off of the beaten path and stick to the more difficult runs, but sometimes you just end up in the crowd inadvertently.

Old. The whole place is old. It feels old. It's a bubble-era resort and, while it has been well maintained, it shows its age. The hotel looks old, the lifts look old and the whole place feels just a little bit out of its prime.

Overall I enjoy APPI and when the snow is really coming down there aren't a whole lot of better places in the area, especially that cater to such a wide range of ability levels. I certainly recommend it.
