Local ski hill
Izuna Kogen is a small, local ski hill, about 35 minutes from downtown Nagano. The Shore family have bought seasons passes here because of the short drive.
On a clear day, you can look up from downtown, and see pretty much all of the runs on Izuna - there's 6 or so of them, spanning all ability ages. The more difficult side of the mountain has some great pitches, while the beginner side is almost ideal for learning. All of the runs as fairly short, though...
There's a bit of off piste skiing in the trees, but it's kinda frowned upon, and it has taken me a few weeks to sort out my bearings to make it happen.
Grooming quality this year has been good.
They have that most irritating habit of playing 'Muzak' over the loudspeakers on the chairlifts...Sometimes it is just background noise, and other times it's like having an unanesthetised root canal!
One quad chair, and a few other old doubles give easy access to the runs. Best to stick to the quad though, as it's the fastest, and you can have an enjoyable day just cycling runs from it.
Shore-let#2 has just discovered the ski/boardcross area, and is having great fun running down it.

The Shore-lets and Mrs.Shore like Izuna, as do I - when I'm with them; otherwise I'm off up the road to bigger venues.

Izuna Kogen is a great, little, local ski hill. It's more set up for locals than tourists, but if you had transport and an afternoon to spare in Nagano, then it's worth a trip.
