A fun resort with a unique town
Had planned to visit Nozawa mainly because of the off slope options for my beginning to ski partner. That worked out quite well. The town is unique (in my experience anyway). Interesting to wander around but it won't take you long! Everything is quite close together but can sometimes be hard to find until you get your bearings. The onsens are also a pretty cool experience and once you get past the slight embrassesment of getting nude with a bunch of strangers you'll be partaking every night!

From a learners point of view there are plenty of options. The English ski lessons seemed good. My partner took a private and was impressed. We initially wanted a group lesson but there were none going. Also plenty of learner friendly slopes to takes your first steps. I actually recommend heading up the gondola and riding uenotaira for real beginners. It quite flat and perfect for gaining some confidence.

For the more advanced there are some nice steeper pistes and mogul runs. And some treeskiing up high in Yamabiko. It's a bit short though and it can get a bit repetitive after a while. Skyline was something I had heard about and its quite long but I only rode it a couple of times.

Overall skiing wise I had an enjoyable time. The snow wasn't quite what I was hoping for but you can't blame the resort for that! What it does highlight is that if the pow isn't falling you might run out of options after a few days.
Date visited: From 01 February, 2015
Snow condition on visit: Had a rain event that colored the snow for the rest of the visit so mainly dust on crust type conditions
Things I liked: Some nice steep pitches and good options for learners up higher (uenotaira). Some fun tree skiing in Yamabiko.
Things I didn't like: For more advanced skiers and especially for snowboarders the flatness in the middle of the hill is a pain. Means lots of walking / pushing.
