Really nice tree runs intended, by Madarao, to be ridden!
For me the defining feature of Madarao would have to be its tree runs.

Though many skijos have nice off-piste opportunities, Madarao offers tree runs intended by the skijo to be ridden! From the short but sweat "Usagi" course to the much longer "Powder Wave 1 and 2" and "Powder Theater" there are seven tree courses for riders to explore. The trees in these areas are for the most part very well spaced and some of the easier spots make a great introduction to tree runs for an intermediate rider wanting to try tree runs for the first time. There are also some slightly steeper drops for the more advanced tree riders. The normal courses also seemed nice but I spent most of my time looking for untracked powder in the trees which due to its location, Madarao gets plenty of.

Madarao is also connected to Tangram skijo and for an extra 1500 yen you can ride both. Though Tangram has a completely contrasting policy on tree runs, they will take your lift ticket if they catch you, I think some of the runs at Tangram could make it worth the extra money. Both Madarao and Tangram also have great views of the surrounding mountains including the Northern Alps and Mt. Myoko, a beautiful volcano.

Overall I would say Madarao is a great location for riders who want to get into the trees without worrying about whether or not they are breaking the rules.
Date visited: From 16 February, 2013 To 17 February, 2013
