RECENT Niseko trip
2nd trip here

Have been to hakuba several times but also nozawa onsen, myoko kogen all the resorts in hakuba, tomminen, ashidake and furano.

Was a bit slushy on the road when we arrived but got 5 - 20cm everyday after.

Very windy for a few days which shut nearly the WHOLE mountain at times.

Got thru the gates and over the top twice into backbowl.

Was busy ++ especially when upper lifts shut due to the wind, gondola queue 10min at times!
Mind you mostly locals and not too many gaijin.

Intermediate boarder + family of teenager kids and a boarding wife.

I love it here, not interested in anyway with groomed stuff or parks.

Niseko allows access to great tree and off piste snow and with some imagination untouched pow can be still be found late in the day.

Gate access is fantastic and allows memorable runs from teh peak to the base in relative "safety" and easy access ( 15-20min hike).

Not so good is trying to get a meal at night, racist attitude at some places, others just cant cope.

Can be "busy" but apart from lift lines not really noticeable especially if go higher and thru the tress and gates.

I do think for young families and beginners hakuba is a much better option - sunny days, heaps of groomed stuff. Was very quiet , but that may have changed in the last 2 years.
