I don't know if I just got lucky but the snow yesterday was as good as anywhere else I've had the pleasure of riding. It just continued to snow all day filling tracks and topping up the powder. Visibility was pretty good for most of the day, I took an early lunch about 11.30 because the vis was a little bad then and at the end of the day the vis was down again but I didn't mind as the snow was ace!
I'd heard that GALA can be really busy so I was a little concerned but I needn't have worried, there weren't that many people around. I guess because it was a Friday and people were still working. By the end of the day I was still getting face shots and knee high powder slashes as I slid down the slopes.
GALA is great as its got everything right there....Shinkansen station built into the base, onsen on the 3rd floor, shops and restauranst all in the one building. For convienience it can't be beaten for day trippers from Tokyo.
It's a shame really, as Yuzawa often gets overlooked by people looking to make trips to Japan, often for the bigger well known places such as Hakuba. BUT Yuzawa is a great destination, the snow it receives is fantastic and often as good as the other better known resort areas, it has a year round town and the amenities that brings and it has a big selection of resorts to try out and its only 90 mins away from Tokyo station by Shinkansen.
I usually hit up Kagura or Naeba when I come up to Yuzawa but the other smaller resorts are definitely worth a day each.
