Hachi Kogen review by SnowKobe
Hachi Kogen/Hachi Kita are supposed to be the best of the West in Japan, and since the combined size is substantial I might agree.

Drive from Kobe just 135km/2hrs. Left Kobe at 5am Sunday morning and had no traffic. Toll just 1400yen each way.

Quite a few short runs, some fast lifts, nice views at top. There was enough snow, but less than average for Feb. From Sunday afternoon crowds thinned out and there were no lines to speak of.

Hachi Kita looked more challengling, and had fewer people.

It was too warm, 5C, and the rain started at 1pm Sunday and didn't stop for 24 hours.

Sunday there were a lot of people in the morning, and we heard Saturday had been worse. Hachi is THE resort all of the Osaka-Kobe people head for if they want a one day trip.

Runs are not that long at Kogen, and there were hundreds of shcool kids on Monday learning to ski at the bottom.

To get to and from Kita you must take a lift-no way to ski between as the connecting run was closed.
Date visited: From 22 February, 2009 To 22 February, 2009
Snow condition on visit: Enough, but very wet
Things I liked: Close to Kansai, lack of lift lines on Monday
Things I didn't like: Very busy on weekends, schoolies on Monday at bottom
