Just went with a buddy and 4 kids between us. We bought the family ticket which paid for 2 adults and 2 elementary kids (12,000yen.) Our other kids are pre-school so they ride for free.
That ticket also gave us 2,000yen in restaurant vouchers. Great deal!
The snow is better here than anywhere else in Fukushima or Niigata this year.
We were pleasantly surprised at how good it was.
Beautiful weather and stunning views of the area certainly helped our mood a lot.
The flat areas were abundant, as other reviewers have noted. However, it's not so bad -- most flat areas can be overcome with minimal speed. Just keep a moderate speed and you'll be fine.
No crowds and nice staff was a bonus.
I personally thought the food was crap, but hey -- I guess I'm fussy. I haven't found any ski hill yet that served decent food, so there you go. The instant-looking burgers we ordered at the Buna Buna restaurant were actually served instantly, as they were sitting under the heatlamps for hours -- just waiting for customers, I suppose. Bleah!
I'll be bringing my own food next time. No worries.
In the end, though -- we had a blast, and the kids loved it. The Gondolas were especially good for our pre-school boarders, who are still learning how to dismount the chairlifts. The Gondola took us fairly close to the top, too, which provided for nice, long 3km runs.
