Seymour didn't have a good opening weekend. A staff member was hit by a piston bully so they closed the WHOLE mountain. Rumour has it she broke her femur. Only other resort open was Ichirino so they were packed BUT the gondola wasn`t running. Only 1 lift was working so they let everyone use it for free.
Things improved later in the season but the staff were not prepared for the heavy snowfall and the avalanche conditions this presented. Top lift was constantly being stopped with no good reasons forthcoming. Having spent a fair chunk of cash on a season ticket this did not go down well. 2 main runs were also closed for weeks due to their inability to clear avalanches. They had to hire a team from Niigata in the end!
Enough of the negative...Seymour can have it's five star moments. It's steep enough to offer good powder runs and some great tree runs. Staff turn a blind eye if you like to wander and most of the boarders stick to the park/half pipe area. Be on the lookout for lunatic old boy skiers who like to buzz (foreign) snowboarders.
It's the closest resort to Kanazawa so can be pretty busy on the weekends but weekdays are mellow.
There is a cheap onsen next to the main car park in which you can soak tired muscles. The curry house (behind and left) of the bottom lift is also worth a visit.
