Hakodateyama is one of the easily accessible mountains in Shiga. Though a little farther than Biwako Valley, it offers a terrain that most often boasts less crowding than its slightly more popular brethren.

You can find a ski/snowboard deal in main JR stations (like Kyoto) with a total cost of 4800 yen for a round trip train ticket, lift, gondola and free drink.

Though the mountain is a bit on the small side, the small amount of time it takes to get there, the ease of arranging to go, and the crowds most often being smaller than that of the more popular mountains definitely makes it a place worth checking out.
