Went 8 days after new year. Expected crowds but found few. Lucky to score blue day and the best powder I have ever seen. I will never ski in Australia (my home) again. Nightlife not as big as some, but the quality snow beats hangover anyday.
Without a doubt the best powder I have skied from a chairlift ever! Light powder, incredible tree skiing (I love deciduous trees!) and not a lift line in sight.
The Japanese could easily make these into world class resorts if their ski patrol would learn some "snow science" and let people accept some risk. All in all, I hope to return for some more incredible turns!
Niseko is great, but it isnt what it used to be. The mountain hasn't changed, of course, but the feeling of the town and the number of people going off in the trees/off-piste has grown to the point where it is a bit disappointing for someone who saw what it was like even five years ago.
The Aussies who have made Niseko their home basically sold out the very reason for being there. Guess, business is business, eh,
