Mostly cloudy but some patches of blue sky and sun at times
Hello and good morning to you all from Hakuba.
Yesterday the snow kept falling on mountain and winds caused some issues - and made it feel extremely cold - but this morning things are calmer.
There is still a lot of cloud around but there is also some sun and blue sky appearing as well, depending on where you are. Perhaps the clouds will continue to clear this morning.
The forecast is looking good folks with snow due once again from later in the day tomorrow and it should continue through the weekend too, light at times and heavier at times. Doesn't look like wind should be a major issues, let's hope not.
But more fresh snow on the way. Wrap up well and I hope you can come and enjoy it all!

Good morning from Yuzawa.
It was day of snow and wind yesterday for the most part, and those strong winds blowing around the snow that was falling - perhaps making it difficult to put a number on... our measuring points however had 9cm of snow by 6pm (I'm guessing probably more than that in some places) and then another 28cm of snow this morning, so a total if 37cm.
Here's what resorts are reporting this morning too:
Kagura: 30-40cm Maiko Snow Resort: 30cm
So a decent amount of fresh snow wherever you are in the area this morning.
Happily this morning the wind doesn't seem to be causing problems and apparently all ski resorts are opening as planned. It is still snowing and likely to continue through the day until later this afternoon or this evening.
Tomorrow a cloudy start is forecast but by the end of the day snow should be falling once again and continuing through at least Friday and perhaps into the weekend.
Below are details of the planned 'nighta' operations at ski and snowboards resorts around Yuzawa and Minamiuonuma this season. This information is subject to change due to snow and weather conditions. *** Please note that this section will not be updated every day.
Ishiuchi Maruyama Daily until 19th March 2017. Nighta is from 5pm until 8:50pm. The Chuo Number 1, Chuo Number 2 and Kanko Number 3 Express lifts are open daily. The Kanko Number 1 Express lift, Hatsukaishi Entrance lift and Hatsukaishi Number 2 pair lifts are also open on weekends and holidays.
Iwappara Daily until 20th March 2017. Nighta is from 5pm until 9pm on Saturdays and until 8pm on weekdays and Sundays. The Main course, Grand course and West courses are open during nighta.

Naeba Daily until 26th March 2017. Nighta is from 4pm until 8:30pm.
NASPA Ski Garden 'Thanks' (extended) opening on Saturdays in January and February. On those days the Number 1 lift is open until 6pm.
Yuzawa Nakazato Every Saturday until 11th March 2017. Nighta is from 5pm until 8:30pm. The Number 2 pair lift operates during nighta.
Another cloudy day here with light very light snow falling and a temperature outside my door of -4 right now.
Yesterday was another 15cm day for us here and the official depth has now been raised to 210cm. we may get a few centimeters more today but not much more. And tomorrow will probably be the same with the winds dying down somewhat. The sun should peek it’s head out on and off today with temperatures steady in the -5 to -7 range. Friday may bring another 15cm or so but we’ll have to wait and see.
Most of the runs are in decent shape and with relatively light crowds and should be fine most of the day. Obviously the more the merrier
See you all out there.
Planned operating lifts at time of report (subject to change due to weather conditions):
Appi Gondola Central quad Central number 2 Central number 3a Central number 4 Central number 5 Central number 6 Sailer Gondola Sailer quad Vista quad Nishimori
Check out what the resort are reporting this morning - 55cm of fresh up on Yamabiko, with 10cm during the day yesterday. That's an impressive number.
Now you know where to be this morning!
There's still a decent amount of fresh lower down the mountain and here at base as well.
I'm liking the look of the forecast as well. While today the snow may ease off and tomorrow start calm and cloudy, snow is due to be back over Nozawa by the end of the day tomorrow and through most of the weekend.
Lifts operations: - All lifts apart from the following lifts are operating - Yunomine pair - Mizunashi pair - Challenge pair - Utopia pair
Most courses at Nozawa Onsen are open. Courses not open are: - Kandahar West - Kandahar East - Grand Prix Read more ...

Cloudy, light snow at times
Good morning and hello - and my apologies for the late report today. 'Unavoidable stuff' is my excuse!
Yesterday didn't totally clear up but we did have periods of blue sky and some sunshine - and lots of wind.
I have 4cm of fresh overnight snow to report to you this morning.
Light snow was falling earlier on this morning, it wasn't snowing when I started this report, but it is snowing again now. Doh! The good news is that the wind is much calmer and this morning all of the lifts that should be moving are open. I would expect with the conditions yesterday and the wind blowing everything around that it will be a mix of nice fresh snow in places but icy in others. Need to keep that in mind.
I'm looking at a few different forecasts here and they tell slightly different stories. I suppose the main thing to take from them is that while we may get some more snow later tomorrow and Friday, I wouldn't expect anything major. Snow clouds are forecast to be with us over the weekend too and so hopefully we'll get something out of them.
Have a fun day.
Niseko Avalanche Report:
Niseko base 6.00am: -5°, 10cm new snow. Moiwa 800m: -8°, 15cm new snow, minor snowdrift development. Annupuri 1150m, -12°, W10m/s, 15cm new snow. Hirafu 1250m, -13°, W10m/s, 10cm ne snow, snowdrift development. Coastal data: Kamui Cape:NW8m/s, 1010hPa, wave 1.0m.
The wind has dropped and the snowdrifts are starting to stabilize. At the 5am observation, the avalanche risk is falling however around 1000m elevation, East ridge cornice slope, Backbowl sidewall and other leeward steep open slopes, the risk of surface avalanches remains high. Gates are expected to be open. Please listen and follow the patrols advice.
Don't ride or wait in the gullies at the valley bottoms. These are avalanche paths and avalanches can hit unexpectedly from above. Take care not to hit trees or fall in cracks. Cracks and holes are difficult to see from above. When riding out of bounds always be aware of your current location. Following unknown tracks is a quick and easy way to get lost. Your freedom to ride out of bounds is protected by the Niseko Rules. This also comes with responsibilities – Don't Duck Ropes. Be careful of sudden weather changes. Have a nice day.
Resort specific opening news at time of writing (subject to change during the day):
Night skiing is planned until Monday 20th March 2017 at the Niseko Annupuri, Niseko Grand Hirafu and Niseko Village resort areas. There is no nighta in the Hanazono area. Read more ...
Shiga Kogen Now!
Wednesday 8th February 2017, 10:01am
Snow clouds still with us
Yes, the fresh snow just keeps on falling on us here in Shiga Kogen. Can you tell how happy I am?
Not a huge amount since yesterday but another decent blanket reset I would imagine on the slopes.
Good news this morning is less wind and so nicer conditions to be out on the slopes.
We're not expecting a whole lot of snowfall today, perhaps just light snow. The heavier snowfall is due back tomorrow night though and snowy conditions should continue into the weekend too. There's not much sun on the forecasts for the moment! (Maybe a bit today at times).
It's a good time to be here. Try to get here is my advice!
Official snow depths numbers reported by different areas of Shiga Kogen:
Please note that these numbers are the official numbers that ski resorts publish.
More fresh snow this morning with just over 10cm outside my place, so I would expect more than that on the mountain.
Limited visibility out there by the looks and moderate blowing winds; the wind will likely mean varying amounts of fresh snow in different places. Caution advised.
Otherwise it should be nice out there this morning.
Tomorrow should be less windy though snow due back by evening time.
Maybe some sunshine on Saturday.
All lifts apart from the following appear to be operating today:
Paradise Number 3 pair Karamatsu pair
All courses apart from Kotan are open.
Official snow depths (as published by the resort itself): Summit - 125cm Paradise - 210cm Chuo - 210cm Utopia - 160cm Uwanodai - 125cm Yokokura - 135cm

The forecast has been pretty good this time round and we are indeed experiencing light snow at the base of Tenjindaira.
Last night's snowfall was big but not as much as the previous evening. There is also substantially more sunlight refracting through the clouds that seem to have been enveloping us up here for an eternity.
Tenjin is just opening up now as of 12pm on Feb 8th so time is short. There is plenty of snow everywhere and Tenjin has just had 1m during the past two days. Hodaigi and Okutone have both got tons of snow too. Enjoy and stay safe

It was good to see some new snowfall on the ground this morning even if it was on the light side, totalling 3cm. During the morning there were flakes of snow slowly falling down from the sky, but the precipitation just wasnt enough to add any further accumulation. There is some mist and cloud rolling a third of the way down the mountain on the Kitanomine side and half way down on the Furano Zone side, so there may be a little flat light around the tops. The sun should appear tomorrow and from the forecast it looks like there will be little if any wind. Read more ...

The sun poked out after lunch
Sorry to be off here for a day; snow was falling, machines aren't working.... I promise to be a good boy and get the report out every day. It is fun, after all!
Tuesday: good snow (37cm), high winds closed the Capsule and quad lifts at Ikenotaira (one reason for panic by your writer) as well as the gondola at Suginohara, although both were running later in the day.
Wednesday: Gray start to the day, with some 7cm of light on top of everything. Meaning some great skiing on piste, but especially out in the trees.
Tomorrow looks good again, with the possibility of heavy snow late in the day into Friday, I promise to start my snowplowing early... 5am. Maybe.
