The weather guy turned out to be right about the predicted rain. It is currently raining lightly and it looks like the rain will continue through the day. The weekend looks more promising with some pleasant weather heading this way on Saturday and Sunday. Read more ...

Increasing cloud cover
After several perfect sunny days, we're getting some clouds today in Myoko. The forecast was for rain, so this want; unexpected, but the day started, unusually, with clouds to the east, north and south, but blue skies over Mt. Myoko. Most often the mountain is lost in the mists while things are clear to the south and east.
Looks like some rain is possible tomorrow, but Sunday should be a nice day. Good day for some spring skiing on the piste; good day for a hike into the backcountry (keep an eye on those still-huge cornices; many have not yet come down).
Open Ski Resorts
Akakan (Akakura Kanko): Sky Cable gondola, Hotel No. 3.
This morning it is a fairly clear one and warm with it Similar to yesterday really. Right now it is 12 degrees in Yuzawa and give another few hours we will see it rise to perhaps 13 or 14. It's not raining yet but surely will be by the end of the afternoon and tomorrow will likely start off wet as well. Tomorrow won't be as warm as today but still be mild followed by the sun making another appearance on Sunday.
So pick of the weekend would probably be Sunday.
Up at Kagura, the new Kagura Park opens from tomorrow with a lot of new items up there to play in.
This weekend is the last for Nakazato Snow Wood and Kandatsu Kogen and from Monday we will be left with only Kagura open in the region.
Part open until 10th April: - Kandatsu Kogen - Nakazato Snow Wood
Mostly open until 22nd May: - Kagura (+ Mitsumata) [see Naeba Now for the latest]
All other resorts in the Yuzawa and Minamiuonuma area are now closed for the season.
This morning has started off similar to how we had things yesterday. Bright but cloudy, some light blue on show, and mild temperatures. Earlier on this morning Kagura were reporting a temperature of +4 degrees so it is warm up there today. Real spring skiing.
Rain has been forecast for the latter part of today and it is still looking likely and also into tomorrow. As the local forecast stands at the moment, Sunday should be clear, warm and sunny once again.
From tomorrow, the new Kagura Park will open up on the lower part of the main course up there with a selection of kickers, tables, boxes and rails.
The Mitsumata car park will probably quickly fill up over the weekend and so if you are planning to do Kagura, getting up there early is recommended.
Naeba and the Tashiro part of Kagura are now closed for the season. Read more ...
Nozawa Onsen Now!
Friday 8th April 2011, 12:10pm
Cloudy, rain due later
Good morning from Nozawa. Actually, it has just clicked over into afternoon :)
But we are escaping the rain so far with just cloudy and fairly dull conditions. Overnight temperatures stayed very mild and actually things will more than likely get cooler as the day progresses. And yes, it will surely be raining before the lifts close and the forecast has the rain continuing tomorrow as well. Sun on Sunday though.
There's still over 3m of snow officially up at the top of the resort. Amazing for 8th April. If only it were open and we could all be out there riding that as well as the currently open course. Oh well, there's nothing we can do about that!

The morning started off cloudy in Hakuba with a low of around 3 degrees in the village early on. Clouds cleared somewhat for a while with some blue on show but it has since clouded over once again and the rain has arrived. Unfortunately it looks like the rain is going to be with us until at least the first part of tomorrow, perhaps even until evening time. It will be a bit cooler tomorrow before rising once again with sunny conditions on Sunday. Next week we can expect a run of good clear conditions once again.
Pick of the weekend would have to be early on Sunday for the clearer conditions. Hopefully more people will once again turn up for the weekend and we can have a lively one. Have fun out there, some great spring conditions to enjoy and still a month of resorts left in the season.

Fine and clear
A little drizzle and very light rain moved through overnight. So light nothing registered in the rain guage in Kutchan at all. Still with the cloud and wind temps stayed well above freezing the entire night. There was a little sleet/wet snow around the peak. This morning was still quite cloudy but this afternoon it has completely cleared up and the sun is shining again. The clear skies should see temps drop below freezing again tonight. Kutchan is expecting to get down to -5. A fine weekend ahead on what is still a great snow cover on the mountain.
