Niseko Now!

Tuesday 7th December 2010, 9:03am
Weather conditions: Cloudy
New snowfall: --
Snow depth: --
Yesterday warmed up considerably again getting up near 8 degrees in the early afternoon and we had a little rain ahead of the cooler air. The temp though did drop rapidly and in the end there was very little rain before it turned to snow. The temp at the base got down to -1 overnight and the snow that's fallen is reasonably wet at the base. We ended up with around 5-10cm of snowfall which has not been enough to get any lifts running today.
Currently it's not snowing but we should get a few light snow showers throughout the day with some heavier falls overnight. Temps are expected to remain mostly below freezing with snow on anf off for much of the rest of the week. At least the tourists in town now have a little snow to play in even if they can't actually ski yet.    Read more ...

Yuzawa Now!

Tuesday 7th December 2010, 10:43am
Weather conditions: Heavy rain (town); snow (high up)
New snowfall: --
Snow depth: --
After another fine and sunny day yesterday, the rain is falling this morning. Heavy rain actually, and it is thankfully colder as well - right now 5 degrees in Yuzawa town area.

High up at Kagura, they are reporting snow. Wet snow I would imagine, but snow all the same! And a temperature of 0 degrees. We do have snow forecast for the day in upper areas though and with it getting colder later on this afternoon and into tomorrow there is promise of some semi-decent snowfall (15cm or so). Clearer weather is forecast tomorrow but later in the day on Thursday is also looking good with a few forecasts calling "heavy snow" on Thursday night. That would be good!   Read more ...

Naeba Now!

Tuesday 7th December 2010, 11:02am
Weather conditions: Cloud, rain, snow higher up
New snowfall: --
Snow depth: --
Things are slightly more winter-like this morning. It is colder and there has been a dusting of new snow on the upper slopes. It is snowing up there still and should do hopefully for the rest of the day. It's not the kind that is going to give us a lot of cm, but it's good to see the snow coming down. Lower down in Naeba it is still raining and we might well not get to see any white stuff fall today even though it is coming down higher up on the mountain.

We have fairly clear conditions forecast for tomorrow though it should stay cold into Thursday when things are looking quite good with some decent snowfall possible, hopefully further down the mountain as well. Fingers crossed everyone!   Read more ...

Shiga Kogen Now!

Tuesday 7th December 2010, 15:37pm
Weather conditions: Snow, cloud
New snowfall: --
Snow depth: --
It's snowing in Shiga Kogen! And it's cold too.

Yesterday saw some more mild conditions and more clear skies, but today it is snowing in Shiga Kogen. There's maybe 5cm or so to boast about so far, but reports of a potential 15-20cm or so tonight is exciting to hear of course. Let's hope they are right! While we are due snowfall overnight, looks like tomorrow will be another clear day though it should stay really cold and we can expect more snow on Thursday. Then more clear weather after that into the weekend.

But things are looking promising for the next few days. I'll update the report tomorrow morning with hopefully some good news.

Lifts currently operating in Shiga Kogen:

No 4 pair lift

Furano Now!

Tuesday 7th December 2010, 22:43pm
Weather conditions: Cloudy
New snowfall: --
Snow depth: --
Good news for snow lovers everywhere! Today, more than 20cm of snow fell in Furano, heralding the true onset of the Winter of 2010-11. The snow came down in buckets all day throughout Eastern and Central Hokkaido, and we definitely received some of the heavier snowfall amounts here. The winds were fairly calm throughout the day, meaning the trees are absolutely covered in powder. Except for the roads which are an icy mess, It looks beautiful out here.

The forecast for the next week implies that she is here to stay, and we couldn't be more excited here. The downside is that due to all the warm weather we had last week, there still isn't enough snow to make the ski slopes safe enough for general use yet, but it is only a matter of time now. We've got below freezing temperatures and snow in the forecast from saturday until next tuesday, so expect the resort to be open sometime soon!   Read more ...
