Myoko Now!

Sunday 7th December 2008, 7:14am
Weather conditions: snowing
New snowfall: --
Snow depth: --
40cm fell last night as Seki re-opens after last week's sun-melts. Akakura and Suginohara are gearing up for next weekend's opening. Seki and Akakura are still receiving steady snowfall, with sporadic snow on the Suginohara side, which faces Nagano. Kurohime and Togakushi received very little snowfall. The weather line is usually quite different just as you go over the border.

A day of sun tomorrow (Monday) then snowfall for the rest of the week, building up to the Akakura/Suginohara openings on the 12th/13th.

Niseko Now!

Sunday 7th December 2008, 9:03am
Weather conditions: Snowing heavily
New snowfall: --
Snow depth: --
You want bottomless powder turns? Then you should be in Niseko today! Big falls yesterday and overnight have carpeted the region in the powder it's renowned for. Without doubt today will have the best conditions of the season so far. The snow is expected to continue up until the early afternoon and then will start up again in the early hours of tomorrow morning. The rain that was forecast for tomorrow now looks likely to be mostly snow although it will turn a little wet as the day progresses. Tuesday may still see some rain but fingers crossed nothing too significant. Anyway lets forget about possible rain, today is a powder day so get out there!   Read more ...

Yuzawa Now!

Sunday 7th December 2008, 9:28am
Weather conditions: Clear blue skies
New snowfall: --
Snow depth: --
Yesterday things cleared up in the afternoon but light snow started again in the evening. This morning in Yuzawa at town level no snow to report, though curiously to the north in Minamiuonuma there is a few cm of fresh snow on the ground.

It is a very fine morning with bright blue skies, just some cloud and the sun out.

Up at Kagura where it was snowing yesterday they are reporting new snow, though the official snow depth is unchanged, and the run at Mitsumata is now open again - but only as a "connecting course" which means that the shuttle bus will once again be taking a rest (hopefully for the rest of the season this time!)

Looking ahead, the heavy snow we all want doesn't look set to be with us at least until at least the end of the week.    Read more ...

Nozawa Onsen Now!

It is a fine morning in Nozawa. Once again the sun is out and we have a lot of blue sky to 'enjoy' (hands up those who'd prefer a blizzard right now?!)

A cold start on the mountain but mild down below and with the sun out it will surely be a relatively warm day. With no new cm of snow overnight to report, operations are the same today as they were yesterday.

Courses open:
Yamabiko A- 1300m
Yamabiko C - 850m
Yamabiko D - 1250
Uenodaira - 2000m

Nagasaka Gondola

Naeba Now!

Sunday 7th December 2008, 9:58am
Weather conditions: Sun
New snowfall: --
Snow depth: --
The sun is out and it looks like we can expect a cracking day weather wise. Cold overnight but it should soon warm up.

Some snow yesterday - not that much in terms of cm, but enough to allow Mitsumata course to be open today as a connecting course. That means the bus is rested again but Mitsumata is basically just being used as a way to get to and from Kagura. So we're still fairly low on snow even though a large part of Kagura is now open.

A fine covering of snow on the lower slopes of Naeba where the No2 Gondola is moving and a course up top open.

Those snow machines are still being used to top up the open courses and I'm sure the resort will be glad when they can turn them off!

Otherwise, waiting for more snow which right now is looking likely to be towards the end of the week before we can expect it.   Read more ...
