Spring season in full force today - fine warm weather with hardly a breeze and and parts of Shiga Kogen closed for the season. Here's a run down of what to expect for the rest of the season, all dependent on weather and snow conditions of course.

Higashitateyama, Terakoya and Yakebitaiyama are closed today but will open again on the following dates - April 11th, 12th, 18th, 19th, 25th, 26th, April 29th until 6th May.

Naeba Now!

Monday 6th April 2009, 10:25am
Weather conditions: Sun
New snowfall: --
Snow depth: --
The sun is out this morning and already it is +7 degrees in the village - expect it to hit double figures today.

There are just 3 lifts operating at Naeba for the next 5 days - the No2 Gondola and two pair lifts (expect increased operations during the weekend and holidays). It covers a fair area though and you can ski/snowboard down from near top to the bottom of the resort mainly on the left hand side of the resort (as you look at the mountain).

The Dragondola is now closed but both of the Ropeways moving at Kagura and still a large part of that resort area is open with good snow cover and decent spring conditions.

More fine weather forecast for the next few days.

Nighta at Naeba has now closed for the season.   Read more ...

Nozawa Onsen Now!

Monday 6th April 2009, 10:47am
Weather conditions: Sunny.
New snowfall: --
Snow depth: --
It is a beautiful sunny morning here in Nozawa. Base depths are 230cm at Yamabiko and 150cm at Uenotaira. Visibility at the moment is excellent and there is a 10km/h westerly breeze blowing. Temperature at the summit is 5C. An all-round magic Spring day!

There is no snow forecast for the next few days. It will be mostly fine. Temperatures will remain warm; generally in the -3C to 3C range, although late week it will be significantly warmer.

The Nagasaka gondola, Yamabiko 1 and 2 quads, the Uenotaira quad, the Yunomine quad are all operating today so there is quite a large skiable area open. It is still possible to ski to the bottom via Paradise, Utopia B, challenge and the Rinkan course. Coverage is patchy on the Rinkan course and Utopia B. Shuttle buses operate every 20 minutes from the bottom of these courses back to the Nagasaka car park.   Read more ...

Weather conditions: Fine, sunny

And then there were two! Just two resorts in the region now remain open, though both of them are hoping to stretch the season into early May.

This morning the sun is out and it is fine weather in the area with warm spring temperatures and a warm breeze. Expect full on spring conditions out there.

Taking a look at the weekly forecast is seems that this week should bring us quite a lot of the same with fine weather running through until next weekend.

Furano Now!

Monday 6th April 2009, 12:36pm
Weather conditions: Overcast.
New snowfall: --
Snow depth: --
The glorious spring weather we had for the weekend finally gave out on Sunday afternoon, turning to cold rain. Temperatures are still very cold overnight, with some sleet and rain this morning. Winds are light, but it is still very cold and damp, so layers are recommended.

It looks like the cloudy weather should clear up this afternoon, resulting in sunny skies all day tomorrow. We are also looking at daytime highs finally hitting the double digits next week. T-shirt weather should not be too far off.   Read more ...

Niseko Now!

Monday 6th April 2009, 13:20pm
Weather conditions: Mostly cloudy
New snowfall: --
Snow depth: --
Very mild temps continued over the weekend and this morning there was a little rain at lower levels with a dusting of wet snow up high on the mountain. Snowdepths down on the plains around Kutchan are down to an average of 50cm but areas exposed to direct sun are starting to become bare with sasa grass starting to come back through. On the mountain the cover is still top to bottom with no bare patches yet on the main runs but I'd expect a few to start opening up over the coming week in exposed high traffic areas. We'll see how well the groomers manage moving the snow around.

The outlook is for continued mild and mostly fine weather.

Niseko Village and Hanazono are now closed although Niseko Village will reopen for Golden Week. Looks like Hirafu Gondola may only operate on weekends from now on as well. The Spring park has now opened up on skiers right of the Ace #3 on the Shirakaba course. Perfect place to play around and break something at the end of the season.

Current Official Snow Depths:

Grand Hirafu:
Top - 325cm
Bottom - 120cm

Niseko Village:
Top - 330cm
Bottom - 100cm

Top - 330cm
