Good morning Zao Now readers and welcome back to the SnowJapan 'Zao Now' reports for the 2015-2016 season.
I hope you had a good summer. I was actually away from Zao over the summer period, but I have been back to enjoy the lovely autumn colours. Things are still looking very colourful still, but there's a definitely late autumn feel in the air and winter is most certainly on the way... the other night it was down to 3C.
Last season Zao Onsen resort opened (well, a limited 'pre-open') on Saturday 23rd November. It will be interesting to see if the resort can once again open on a similar date this season. You can look back over archive reports using the links at the bottom of this report page.
I will be back with news of weather and hopefully snowfall over the next few weeks and then of course once the season gets going plan be posting updates every day through to the end of the season in May 2016.
May it be a long and particularly snowy and fun winter! Read more ...

A lovely morning
Greetings from Hakuba!
And here we are.
Winter is just around the corner once again.
The autumn colours have been spectacular as usual and now we have snow on the mountain peaks. Beautiful... I never tire of it.
Everyone in Hakuba is busy-busy right now preparing for the winter season to begin. The major resorts aiming to be open by the end of this month so it's not long now. I'll be back soon with more details on opening plans. In the meantime do take a look at the archive reports to get an idea of how previous seasons have gone. You will find the archives lower down the Hakuba Now page (on the main site).
By the way, do take a look at the new TRAVEL section that SnowJapan have launched this year. Lots of good detailed information in there, including Hakuba-related of course:
You may also notice that SnowJapan now has a special mobile site, so you can get your Hakuba Now fix on smartphones. All of the archives and details can of course still be found on the main site.
Hakuba Now will once again this season be bringing you daily reports - independent and honest reports, hopefully the way you like them! I'll try to pack in as much useful information as possible. Fingers crossed there will be lots of good news this winter.
Hello and welcome back to the Nozawa Now reports here on SnowJapan.
After a good rest and re-charge, I'm back and ready to go for the 15/16 season here in Nozawa.
The end of last season seems such a long time ago, but at the same time... somehow not that long ago. Every season here in Nozawa brings a different kind of 'busy', but I always think that for many folk here in the village, November is one of the busiest.
Lovely autumn colours for those able to take some time to enjoy them over the last few weeks, along with colder temperatures (sometimes very chilly) telling us that winter is up next. And there a lots of ongoing preparations for the coming winter going on at the moment.
Nozawa Onsen hopes to open for the season on Saturday 28th November. It will depend on snowfall of course, and I'll keep you updated from time to time over the next few weeks with the latest.
In the meantime take a look back over previous seasons to see how things have shaped up.
One of the major updates to SnowJapan this season is a brand new 'Travel' section. At over 100 pages, there's a lot of information up there including details on how to get to Nozawa Onsen (as well as many other popular snow regions of Japan). I highly recommend you take a look:
