First snow of the season on the mountains - turned into a fine day
Hakuba is definitely getting the first signs of an approaching winter. Yesterday we had clear blue skies and could see that the snow had accumulated quite nicely on the upper peaks. The first snows arrived last week here, when it was raining in the valley and snowing up top.
The snow line is at about the 1200-1500 meter mark now, not enough to ski yet, but if this trend continues we shouldn't have to wait too long.
The weekend looks like it is going to be nice, so a great opportunity to bike, hike and see the fantastic autumn colours in the Japan Alps! Read more ...

Fine, some cloud
After the first snowfall of the season on the mountain we have seen varied conditions - ranging from winter-like cold days with cold rain and fog to fine and sunny days.
Yesterday was one of the fine days - see the photos uploaded today - all was looking very pretty with autumn like colors lower down the mountain and the top frosted over with a sheet of white snow.
The Sky Cable ropeway is closed until the 18th November for pre-ski season maintenance.
The resort hopes to open as soon as possible, which is usually around the end of the month.
