Well the final day of the season has arrived. Cloud is covering the top half of the mountain, temperatures are warm, there is an absence of wind and still good snow cover on the upper mountain. It has been a very busy Golden Week for Furano and there have been good numbers out on the mountain, and I would expect quite a few people out there today to cap off the season. Read more ...

Sun, fine, some cloud
This morning we have some wispy white cloud hanging on in places but generally more fine, sunny weather with a light blue sky. It is already around 15 degrees in Yuzawa with a high of around 17 around lunchtime forecast.
I was just taking a look back at how the weather was last year at this time and surprised to see that temperatures last Golden Week were approaching 30 degrees in Yuzawa. It's fairly warm but certainly nothing like that this year! More snow left too and the Mitsumata area of Kagura is still going strong.
It's the last national holiday of Golden Week today, though we can perhaps expect Kagura to be a bit busier than a normal Friday tomorrow as some people take an extra day off for a long holiday.
As mentioned below Kandatsu is still part open, though the snow and course areas open there now are quite limited - Kagura by far offers the most area open.
Kandatsu Kogen plans to be open until 8th May. Kagura plans to be open until 29th May.

Planned lift operations at Kagura (29th April - 8th May):
Well, Golden Week is nearly over now and it has been quite busy. Not as busy as normal for a Golden Week I would say, but still a fair few people. A pity really, because this season there still is a lot of snow up at the resorts and complete cover.
Last year we didn't have as much snow and we were also dealing with some really hot temperatures.... down in Yuzawa town it rose to over 30 degrees during Golden Week!
Today it is not going to get much over about 17 degrees, and less than that up at Kagura of course. The resort was even reporting a temperature of just +2 up there early this morning. So a big contrast to last year. It's a fine morning with the sun out and some wispy cloud amongst the blue sky.
Anyway, tomorrow is not a national holiday and I think the resort plan to have less lifts moving, though they should be covering the same course areas. Then after that, it's the weekend again!
Lovely weather in Hakuba today with a high of around 16 degrees in the village.
Today was the last day of the season for Happo resort, but Goryu will be open until Sunday (8th) and Hakuba 47 has also extended the season a bit and will be open until Sunday 8th May.
At Happo, the three lifts that comprise the summer season 'Hakuba Alpen Line' (Gondola, Alpen quad, Grat quad) will be operating from 14th May after a period closed for maintenance.
Today was also the last day of the ski season at Tsugaike Kogen, and their lifts will be closed from tomorrow until Thursday 19th May. The Gondola/Ropeway at Tsugaike will re-open on 20th May for summer operations.
There's a chance of rain on Saturday night, but apart from that weather conditions should stay either sunny or cloudy through until the official end of the season.
Official snow depths and operations @ Thursday 5th May AM:
Hakuba Goryu: The upper slopes at Goryu plan to be open until 8th May. The Gondola and Alps No1, No2 and No3 lifts are operating. The course from the upper Alps slopes to lower Toomi slopes is now closed. Alps daira - 120cm.
Hakuba 47: All lifts except Line D lift operating. 47 plans to be open until 8th May. Top to bottom skiing still ok, resort reporting 80% of slopes remaining open (as of Thursday 5th May). Snow depth (upper) - 58cm
